Tournament Director's Notes
PLAY BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Aloha and welcome to another exciting season of beach volleyball in America's Finest City - San Diego, CA. We hope that your experience playing CBVA Beach Volleyball will be an enjoyable one.
TOURNAMENT SITES: CBVA San Diego tournament sites will be Ocean Beach and Central Beach on Coronado Island.
DEADLINE TO ENTRY & REFUNDS: Deadline is 12:00 pm the day before a tournament. No refunds after 12:00 pm on the day before the tournament. NO EXCEPTIONS.
ON THE DAY OF THE TOURNAMENT: Check in is at 8:15 am. At 9:00 we will review tournament rules and demonstrate some of the basic beach volleyball skills need to compete in the tournament. At 9:15 we will assign pools and courts. Competition begins at 9:30. Playoffs normally start at 1:00 and the tournament ends around 4:30.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE TOURNAMENT: Plenty of water, sun protection and lunch. A beach towel, chair and umbrella is a good idea. Local eateries are about a 5 minute walk from the courts.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Format will be pool play followed by single elimination playoffs. Teams are expected to warm up prior to their games. On court warm ups will only be 2 minutes - NO EXCEPTIONS Teams warming up longer than 3 minutes may result in the limiting of teams advancing to the playoff round. All teams are expected to referee throughout the tournament. 5-6 team pools will play one game to 21 points with a cap of 23 points. 4 team pool will play one game to 28 points with a cap of 30 points. Top teams will advance to playoffs and play one game to 21 points no cap win by two points.
AWARDS: 1st - 3rd place medals will be awarded. Additional merchandise MAY BE AWARDED.
COACHES. PARENTS AND FANS. Everyone is encourage to cheer their teams throughout the tournament. However, coaching is NOT ALLOWED during a game. Coaching or any contact with the player is only allowed before and after the game, and during the team's one minute time out. (only one time out per team). Any violation of this rule may result in a lost of serve and one point deduction. Any coach or parent are found arguing calls, or questioning the referee may result in a forfeiture of the game. DON'T BE THE COACH OR PARENT WHO CAUSED YOUR PLAYER TO FORFEIT THEIR GAME. If a coach or parent have a problem with a player or referee, please contact the tournament director directly. POOR SPORTSMANSHIP WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
SPECIAL SAN DIEGO TOURNAMENT EVENTS
June 18. Father's Day Classic. This annual event encourages dads to play with their son or daughter in friendly competition with other families.
CBVA TOUR STOP. Aug 5 - Girls 12, 14 and 16 divisions. Aug 7 Boys 18 &12. Aug 8 Boys 14 & 16. Aug 9 Girls 18U.
HALLOWEEN CLASSIC Oct 28. This annual event encourages teams in come in their favorite Halloween costume. There will be a costume contest prior to the start of the tournament. Special awards are provided to the top three costumes.
College Recruiting. Beach volleyball is now an official NCAA Division One sport for women. Colleges and Universities throughout the country are now hosting programs in beach volleyball. Those players interested in continuing their beach volleyball careers to the collegiate level are encouraged to contact Jim Tuyay, CBVA Director. CBVA is not a recruiting agency but we can advise the family and player who to go to for training. There are several beach club directors and recruiting agencies in Southern California who can assist the player. Feel free to ask us for advise.
