Tournament Director's Notes

AVPFirst is a national development program of which CBVA is the exclusive West Coast partner. For players to receive AVPFirst points you must be a AVPFirst member. (http://avp.com/avp-first/) Points will be awarded by AVPFirst for each designated tournament and will cumulatively determine bids for the National Championships at Hermosa Beach in late July. Players will also receive CBVA points. The point scales will be unique to each group and not the same. AVPFirst will utilize an athlete's top 6 finishes in determining National Championship standings/invitations. Grand Slam events are 2 day, match play tournaments. The event will include best 2 out of 3 matches for both pool play and playoff brackets. The amount of points earned for each finish in the Grand Slam event is worth more than a single day, single set Open tournament. By competing in a Grand Slam, young athletes increase their point totals and in turn their chances of receiving an invitation to the AVPFirst National Championship at the end of the current qualifying period. The qualification period ends July 1 for the CA Zone.

Directions

We're not at the Pier; We're 2 miles south, in front of the SMOKE STACKS at Newland Street in the State Park; Cars are advised to enter the park at Magnolia and Coast Highway, then proceed North; During mid-summer, the Beach Blvd entrance is open too. The parking fee is $15/day but you can leave and re-enter, which is great for food-runs; You can also buy the $125 year pass which works at Doheny and all the other state beaches and parks; There is nearly infinite parking a short walk from the courts, restrooms are close by too, but the nearest food is 3/4 mile at Beach Blvd. SPEED LIMIT IN THE PARK: 15MPH. DON'T SPEED IN THE PARK. KIDS ARE EVERYWHERE, AND SO ARE RANGERS WHO HAVE THE POWER TO CANCEL OUR TOURNAMENTS.
